What a heavy haul really costs to move
Big hauls break the assumptions that work for small parcels. A box that looks reasonable at two kilos becomes punishing at twelve, and the line that was cheapest last month may refuse your category entirely. This page is written for people consolidating a month of finds into one shipment, so it starts from weight and volume rather than from item count, and it treats the storage window as the most valuable free thing on the platform.
← Back to overviewThe short, heavy version
Your bill is the goods, the freight on chargeable weight, Hipobuy's service fee and duty. On a bulky haul the freight line dominates, so packing decisions matter more here than anywhere else on the site.
- Goodswhat the sellers charged, summed across however many rows went into the box
- Chargeable freightthe greater of actual and volumetric weight — the number that decides a haul's viability
- Service feeHipobuy's cut for buying, inspecting, holding and packing everything together
- Dutyyour border's decision, which large parcels attract more readily than small ones
Hipobuy adjusts fees, storage terms and its prohibited list over time. Its own pages are what count.
Twenty items, one photo session, one chance
When a dozen things go into one box, warehouse photographs become a triage exercise rather than a beauty check. Work through them quickly for colour, visible damage and size tags, then slow down on anything you would be annoyed to discover was wrong after it crossed an ocean.
- · Colour of each piece against its own listing photo
- · Visible damage — scuffs, marks, pulls, broken fasteners
- · Size tags across every unit, so nothing arrives in the wrong size
- · Seam and stitch quality on the pieces most likely to be stressed
- · That each variant is the one you ordered, including colourway
- · That everything you paid for is actually in the haul
- · How a fabric feels or drapes once worn
- · Smell, which sealed bulk packaging tends to concentrate
- · Whether hardware and elastic survive months of use
- · Daylight colour rather than warehouse lighting
- · Fit — a tag is not a measurement, and haul sizing catches people out
What the images can settle for a multi-item box on the left; what stays unknowable until unpacking on the right.
- Triage, then zoom.Scan every item once for obvious problems, then re-examine the expensive ones.
- Cut dead weight before submitting.Retail boxes, hangers and excess packaging are billed as if they were product.
- Use the storage window properly.Waiting for the last item usually beats paying twice for two half-empty boxes.
- Photograph what you approved. With this many items, memory is not a reliable record.
Consolidation is where Hipobuy earns its keep
Lines are chosen after inspection, and for a haul the choice is mostly about how weight is measured. Hipobuy's lines differ on price, transit time and accepted cargo, and consolidation — turning eight small parcels into one dense box — is the single biggest lever you control.
Carriers bill the greater of real and dimensional weight. A bulky box of light goods is charged as if heavy.
Shoe boxes, polybags and filler add volume that you pay to move.
Some lines are priced for dense cargo, others for volume. Match the line to the haul.
Past certain weights, two parcels on an economy line undercut one on an express line.
Batteries, aerosols, liquids and branded goods each have their own rules.
One parcel, a month of purchases, a single point of failure.
What a haul total is made of
The same handful of parts as any parcel, except the freight line is doing most of the work:
- 1
- 2
- 3
- 4
- 5
- 6
Rates are deliberately unprinted — your box, line and country set them. Pull live numbers from Hipobuy's estimator and treat Hipobuy's pages as final.
Fees, line by line
Price your haul before you submit it
Fill in what you expect: goods total, domestic leg, packed weight, international rate, Hipobuy's service fee and the exchange rate. Watch how the total responds when you shave a kilo off the packing — that sensitivity is the point of the exercise.
Guidance, not a quote. Chargeable weight, route, destination and customs all shift the real figure, and Hipobuy may quote differently at checkout.
Returns, storage limits and Hipobuy's prohibited list
Hipobuy publishes after-sales rules, storage limits and a prohibited-goods list. Read the relevant clause before a haul goes out — a refused item inside a consolidated box holds up everything around it.
